Backyard Putting Greens — Real Install Guide

What makes it putt true

  • Sub-base: 4" compacted aggregate, laser-leveled to ±1/8".
  • Turf: nylon putt-grade, 0.5" pile, sand-infilled to 90% of fiber height.
  • Fringe collar: 1.5" rough texture surrounding for ball stops.
  • Real PGA-spec cups (4.25" diameter, sleeve installed below grade).
  • Slight 2% slopes for chip practice and visual interest.

Add-ons worth it

Chipping mat from real distance (15–30 ft), bunker with white silica sand, multiple holes (3–5 is the sweet spot for a backyard), under-turf lighting for night putting.

Cost

Basic 300 sq ft green with 2 cups: $7K–$12K. Pro-spec 600 sq ft with bunker, fringe, 5 cups, contour: $18K–$35K.
