The Easiest Way to Clean Glass Fencing

Glass fencing is lower maintenance than most people think. You don't need specialty cleaners or power equipment. A sponge, a bucket of warm water with a few drops of Dawn dish soap, and a squeegee is all it takes — usually under ten minutes per section.

  • Rinse the panel with a garden hose to knock off loose dust and grit.
  • Fill a bucket with warm water and a few drops of Dawn dish soap.
  • Wipe the glass with a soft sponge or microfiber applicator — top to bottom.
  • Rinse again with clean water.
  • Squeegee dry immediately — this is the step that prevents hard-water spots.
  • Wipe the squeegee blade clean between each pass.
  • Clean more frequently in areas with hard water, pool overspray, irrigation overspray, dust, or high sun exposure.
02

What to Avoid

To help prevent scratches, staining, or damage, avoid:

  • Razor blades
  • Metal scrapers
  • Steel wool
  • Abrasive pads
  • Harsh brushes
  • Abrasive powders
  • Acid-based cleaners
  • Highly alkaline cleaners
  • Concrete, grout, mortar, or hard-water buildup sitting on glass
  • Letting dirty water or cleaning solution dry on the glass
  • Pressure washing too close to glass, seals, or hardware
  • Hitting panels or hardware with landscaping equipment
03

Routine Cleaning

For routine glass cleaning:

  • Rinse loose dirt, dust, and grit from the glass first.
  • Use clean water and a soft microfiber cloth, sponge, or non-abrasive applicator.
  • Use a mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner when needed.
  • Clean one section at a time.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  • Dry with a clean microfiber cloth or soft rubber squeegee to reduce water spots.
  • Clean more frequently in areas with hard water, pool overspray, irrigation overspray, dust, or high sun exposure.
04

Hard Water, Pool Overspray, and Mineral Spots

Arizona conditions can create mineral buildup faster than many homeowners expect. Pool water, irrigation overspray, dust, and hard water can leave spots on glass if they are allowed to sit.

  • Adjust sprinklers so they do not spray directly onto glass.
  • Rinse glass after heavy pool splash, irrigation overspray, dust storms, or monsoon activity.
  • Dry glass after cleaning to reduce spotting.
  • Clean mineral buildup early before it becomes more difficult to remove.
  • Use only non-abrasive products that are safe for glass and hardware.
05

Hardware Care

For glass fencing, gates, doors, railings, and hardware:

  • Keep hardware clean and free from heavy dirt, calcium, pool chemicals, and debris.
  • Rinse hardware with clean water when exposed to pool splash or irrigation overspray.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive pads on hardware finishes.
  • Do not force gates, latches, hinges, or doors.
  • If hardware feels loose, misaligned, noisy, or difficult to operate, submit a support request.
06

Glass Fence and Pool Area Care

For glass installed around pools or outdoor living spaces:

  • Keep landscaping tools, rocks, furniture, toys, and equipment from striking the glass.
  • Do not lean heavy objects against glass panels.
  • Keep gates clear and able to close properly.
  • Do not modify, remove, loosen, or adjust panels or hardware.
  • Keep children and pets away from damaged or loose glass.
  • Report broken, cracked, chipped, or loose glass immediately.
07

When to Submit a Support Request

Submit a glass support request if you notice:
