The 13 questions AE answers for every turf installations project
Each link goes to the canonical AE page that answers the question — cost guide, planning tool, warranty scope, real project, or homeowner FAQ. Anything we haven't verified is kept in our owner-confirmation queue rather than guessed at.
- What is it?
Premium synthetic turf for lawns, pet areas, putting greens, and activity zones — installed on a proper quarter-minus base for drainage.

What this looks like in Arizona heat, soil, and monsoon
Heat-rated face & infill
Standard turf can read 150°F+ in Phoenix sun. We default to lighter face yarns and cool-tech infills, and tell you the trade-offs honestly.
Drainage for monsoon
Turf is built on a permeable base graded to a drain path — without it the lawn becomes a pond. Pet zones get extra infill turnover for odor control.
Bermuda removal
Live Bermuda will push through any turf within a season if not killed and removed. We don't skip this step.
UV warranty fit for AZ
Manufacturer UV warranties vary widely. We install lines rated for Sun Belt UV intensity, not generic national stock.
How we build it, summarized
- — Written, itemized scope before any work begins; no verbal change orders.
- — Engineering, drainage, and code review documented in the approved design.
- — Manufacturer instructions and current AZ code govern installation methods.
- — Photo documentation captured at each major milestone for the project file.
Final specifications depend on the approved design, site conditions, engineering, applicable code, manufacturer instructions, and signed scope.

Turf Installations questions, answered
How much does turf installation cost in Arizona?+
Most AE turf installs run $11–$18 per square foot installed, including base prep, turf, infill, and edging. Putting greens run higher.
Does artificial turf cause flooding?+
No — poor grading causes flooding. If water has no path to drain, the yard floods with or without turf. Our base prep includes proper grading and drainage.
How much water does turf save?+
Typically around 40,000 to 60,000 gallons per year for an average Arizona lawn.
Does it smell with pets?+
Only if the system underneath is built wrong. Proper drainage and the correct infill keep pet areas clean and odor-free.
Is artificial turf allowed by HOAs?+
Most Arizona HOAs allow artificial turf as part of water-conscious landscaping. We can review your CC&Rs during design.
How hot does artificial turf get?+
Surface temps climb in direct sun, but cool-tech infill and lighter turf colors reduce surface temp significantly. We'll walk you through options.
What's the typical timeline for an artificial turf installation?+
Most residential artificial turf installations, including base preparation and turf laying, are completed within 2–5 days depending on the size and complexity of the project.
What materials are used for the base beneath artificial turf?+
We use a compacted crushed granite or decomposed granite base, approximately 3–4 inches deep, to ensure proper drainage and a stable, level surface for your artificial turf.
Published specifications are typical AE planning or construction baselines. Final specifications depend on site conditions, engineering, manufacturer requirements, applicable code, and the signed scope.
What goes wrong when this is done poorly
- Bad smell from poor drainage with pets
- Wrinkles from skipped stretching
- Surface heat from cheap turf and dark infill
- Cheap turf matting down within a year
- Bad seams that telegraph after a season
- Poor base — turf sinks or undulates
