Fire pit, spa, and LED lighting at dusk — AE Outdoor Living project in the Phoenix metro
About AE Outdoor Living (AE Living)

AE Living — one accountable team for your Arizona outdoor space.

AE Living is the everyday name for AE Outdoor Living — a family-owned Phoenix-metro outdoor builder founded in 2005 in Peoria, Arizona. Homeowners, referral partners, and our team use "AE" and "AE Living" interchangeably. Four coordinated divisions across design, construction, lighting, and glass, under one accountable project plan.

The founder story

David Bell started AE in 2005, out of a single truck.

David grew up in the West Valley — Sun Valley Elementary, Peoria High School, Glendale Community College. He met his wife here, raised three kids in the same community, and started AE in 2005 doing decorative concrete curbing across Peoria.

In 2006 the company expanded into the full landscape package so homeowners weren't juggling four contractors for one yard. Today, AE is still family-owned and still operating out of Peoria, Arizona.

"If I wouldn't build it for my own family, we don't build it for yours."

How we lead

A values-driven, faith-based approach to the way we run this company.

AE is a family-founded company led by people whose personal faith shapes how they treat clients, crews, subcontractors, and the community. We say that plainly because it explains a lot about how we operate — but it isn't a test anyone has to pass to work with us. Clients, employees, and partners of every background, belief, and walk of life are welcome here, and always have been.

Treat people the way we'd want to be treated

It's not a slogan; it's the operating rule. Return the call. Show up when you said you would. Say the hard thing early, not late. Pay subs on time. Answer the warranty question three years later the same way you'd answer it three weeks in.

Honest scope, honest numbers, in writing

We publish real cost ranges. We won't quote low to win the job and change-order our way back. If a scope isn't right for your yard or your budget, we say so — even when it means walking away from work.

Everyone is welcome at our table

Faith-based leadership means our values are anchored somewhere — it does not mean the projects, clients, or team members have to share those beliefs. AE serves and employs people across every faith, tradition, and background. You will never be asked about yours.

Stewardship over speed

The work outlives the sale. We build to specs designed to last decades, not to next season's photo, and we'd rather lose the "fastest bid" comparison than shortcut a base, a bond, or a cure window.

Built on giving back

"We didn't build a company that gives back — we built a company on giving back." Community work (Shop With a Cop, Day of Giving, backpack drives, donated backyards, the Purposeful Giving Alliance) is a foundational pillar, not a marketing add-on.

Respect for those who serve

AE is a law-enforcement-friendly company and proudly extends community pricing and priority scheduling to military, first responders, nurses, and educators — a quiet thank-you to the people who serve. Eligibility and how we verify it are spelled out plainly on the Community & Service Discounts page.

The short version: our leadership is anchored in faith and family; our door is open to everyone. If any of the above resonates, you'll feel it in the first phone call. If it doesn't, we'll still treat you the way we'd want to be treated — because that part isn't optional.
How AE coordinates work

In-house crews and licensed specialty partners.

AE self-performs much of its work and coordinates qualified licensed specialty trade partners where the project requires them. AE remains responsible for coordinating the contracted scope.

Examples of work AE typically self-performs include design, project management, hardscape (pavers, flagstone, travertine, concrete), landscape and irrigation, shade structures, AE LEDs lighting, Sonoran Glass & Fence installation, and post-handoff aftercare. Specialty trade partners are coordinated for scopes such as rebar, excavation, gunite, pool interior finish, and final gas or electrical hookups requiring a separate trade license.

Each project's labor mix is defined in the signed scope. Trade partners on an AE project carry their own ROC licensing, general liability, and workers' compensation, and work under AE's project manager and published standards.

Community involvement

We didn't build a company that gives back. We built a company on giving back.

Community work is a foundational pillar at AE. Programs below are ongoing or recurring; specific outcomes, dates, and photos are published with each partner organization's permission.

Shop With a Cop

Annual participation with local law-enforcement partners. AE contributes funds, volunteers, and on-day support so families receive a holiday shopping experience alongside officers.

Day of Giving

An annual day where AE pauses regular operations and contributes labor, equipment, and materials toward a community project chosen with a partner organization.

Backpack & school-supply drives

Annual back-to-school drives benefiting West Valley schools and teachers, including David's wife's kindergarten classroom and partner classrooms.

Donated outdoor spaces

AE has donated work or materials to families and nonprofits facing extraordinary circumstances. Each donation is coordinated with a partner organization and disclosed only when the partner has approved the story.

Purposeful Giving Alliance

Active participation in PGA initiatives across the Valley. David Bell currently serves as Vice President.
