Actual AE ProjectTransform an underused Peoria side yard into a quiet courtyard the family actually uses — with a focal water feature, a real patio for seating, and a turf runway for the dog and the kids.
A long, narrow side yard bordered by tall block walls. The design had to feel like a destination — not a corridor — while keeping enough turf and clean sight lines for everyday use.
AE anchored the space with a stacked-stone spillway water feature between twin planter columns, laid a French-pattern travertine patio with paver-bordered turf inlays for rhythm, and layered path lighting along the block-wall trellises so the courtyard reads at night as well as it does at sunset.
Center water feature between twin planter columns with travertine caps — the visual anchor for the whole side yard.
Multi-size travertine laid in a French pattern over the AE canonical 2–3" ABC base + 1" sand bed with polymeric joint sand.
Artificial turf framed by travertine borders — clean edge, no exposed turf backing.
Existing covered patio refinished with a flake-coat concrete system — durable, cleanable, and visually connected to the travertine outside.
Steel wall trellises with climbers to soften the block and add vertical greenery over time.
Warm-white pathway fixtures along the beds so the courtyard is usable after dark.
Narrow side yards don't need to be walkways. Anchor them with one focal feature, give them a real patio, and the whole side of the house starts working for the family.
