New: Turf Rebate Finder — check your address

Four ways to upgrade your yard in days, not months.

Not every outdoor project needs a six-month build. Turf, glass pool fencing, pavers, and AE LEDs permanent lighting are the four categories we install most — with published investment ranges, honest timelines, and the same ROC-licensed in-house crews that build our full backyards.

01 · Artificial Turf

Green year-round, cool underfoot, dog-proof.

Pet-safe turf systems built around our AE Pet Turf Infiltration base — the difference between a yard that stays fresh and one that starts smelling in July.

  • AE Pet Turf Infiltration base — actually drains, no soaking sub-base
  • Cool-touch yarn options for shaded and full-sun exposures
  • Turf-grade base (never quarter minus under pavers — separate spec)
  • 5–15 year warranty depending on product tier
How AE installs

How AE installs artificial turf in Arizona

Typical on-site time: Most yards: 2–5 install days after materials land

  1. Sod, rock, and irrigation removal

Existing sod or granite is stripped, sprinkler heads are capped, and the pad is graded for drainage away from the house.

  2. AE Pet Turf Infiltration base

3–4 inches of the AE Pet Turf Infiltration base is laid, wet, and plate-compacted so urine and monsoon rain drain instead of pooling.

  3. Weed barrier + border

Geotextile weed barrier and hidden bender-board or paver edge restraint are set to lock the perimeter.

  4. Turf roll, seam, and anchor

Turf is rolled to relax, seams are glued and staple-tacked, then the perimeter is anchored with galvanized nails on 4–6 inch centers.

  5. Infill and grooming

Antimicrobial infill is brushed in to lock blades upright, then the surface is power-groomed and walk-tested before we hand it off.

Common questions
How hot does artificial turf get in Phoenix?+

Standard turf can hit 150–170°F in full July sun. AE's cool-touch yarn options and lighter infill colors run 20–40°F cooler, and shade sails or evening water-downs bring it into comfortable range for pets and kids.

Is artificial turf safe for dogs?+

Yes when the base is built for pets. AE's Pet Turf Infiltration base drains liquid straight through and antimicrobial infill blocks odor buildup — the two failure points on cheap installs.

How long does an artificial turf install take?+

Most Valley yards install in 2–5 days on-site once materials land. Larger properties, complex demo, or heavy irrigation rework can push toward a week.

Ballpark only — not a bid. Complex demo, irrigation rework, or premium cool-touch yarn can move the number.

02 · Sonoran Glass & Fence

Frameless glass pool fencing that passes code the first time.

Tempered safety glass, engineered spigots (bolt-down or core-mount), self-closing self-latching gates — installed by AE employees under AE's ROC license. No reseller middlemen.

  • Frameless or semi-frameless — we'll tell you which suits the site
  • Core-mount vs bolt-down spec chosen for your deck substrate
  • Arizona pool-code compliant gate hardware (Magna-Latch etc.)
  • Cleaning/care guide included — hard water is real here
How AE installs

How AE installs a frameless glass pool fence

Typical on-site time: Typical residential run: 1–2 install days

  1. Site survey and code check

We measure the enclosure, confirm the 4-ft minimum barrier height and self-closing gate placement against Arizona pool-code, and choose bolt-down vs core-mount based on the deck substrate.

  2. Spigot layout and setout

Engineered spigots are laid out on 24–36 inch centers with the glass panel size, then anchor points are marked so every gap stays under the 4-inch pool-code maximum.

  3. Anchor installation

For bolt-down, stainless anchors are epoxied into the deck. For core-mount, we wet-core the deck and set the spigots plumb before the epoxy cures.

  4. Tempered glass set and level

12mm tempered safety glass panels are lifted in with suction handles, seated in the spigots with the isolation gaskets, and torqued level.

  5. Gate hardware and code inspection

Self-closing hinges and self-latching Magna-Latch gate hardware are installed at code-required heights, then the enclosure is inspected against the same checklist the city uses.

Common questions
Does a glass pool fence meet Arizona pool code?+

Yes when installed to spec. Arizona and every Valley city require a 4-ft minimum barrier, self-closing self-latching gates, no openings a 4-inch sphere can pass through, and no exterior climbable footholds. AE builds every enclosure against that checklist.

Bolt-down or core-mount spigots — which is right for my deck?+

Bolt-down works on structurally sound concrete deck 4 inches or thicker. Core-mount is stronger and cleaner-looking but requires wet-coring the deck — best on new pours or pool remodels. We spec it based on your slab depth and rebar layout.

How much does frameless glass pool fencing cost in Phoenix?+

Most Valley installs land $185–$260 per linear foot, so a typical residential enclosure runs $8,000–$15,000. Gate count, spigot type, and any deck coring drive the range.

03 · Pavers & Hardscape

Patios, walkways, and driveways built on the right base.

Every AE paver install uses our canonical base spec — the same one we teach in the buyer education pages. It's why our patios stay flat after 10 Arizona summers.

  • 2–3" ABC base for patios/walkways (4–6" for driveways)
  • 1" sand bed, always. Polymeric joint sand, always.
  • We never use quarter minus under pavers — read our guide on why
  • Belgard, Pavestone, Acker-Stone — brand comparison published
How AE installs

How AE installs a paver patio in Arizona

Typical on-site time: Small patio: 3–5 days · Driveway: 1–2 weeks

  1. Excavate to subgrade

The pad is excavated 5–7 inches below finished grade for patios (7–10 inches for driveways) and the subgrade is compacted to 95%.

  2. Install compacted ABC base

2–3 inches of aggregate base course (ABC) is laid, wet, and plate-compacted in 1-inch lifts for patios. Driveways get 4–6 inches of ABC, more where soft soil or heavy loads require it. Quarter minus is never used under pavers.

  3. Screed the 1-inch sand bed

A 1-inch screeded bedding sand layer is set on top of the compacted base, flat and untouched before the pavers land.

  4. Lay pavers and set edge restraint

Pavers are laid to the specified pattern with 1/8-inch spacer joints, then heavy-duty edge restraint is spiked around every open edge.

  5. Polymeric joint sand and compaction

Polymeric joint sand is swept in, the field is plate-compacted with a protective mat, then the sand is activated with a light mist so it locks the pattern against weeds and ants.

Common questions
How thick should the base be under a paver patio in Arizona?+

AE's spec is 2–3 inches of compacted ABC for patios and walkways, 4–6 inches for driveways, plus a 1-inch screeded sand bed on every install. Soft soil or heavy-load driveways get additional depth.

Can I use quarter minus under my pavers?+

No. Quarter minus is a turf base — it's fines-heavy and holds water, which causes pavers to shift and settle. AE only uses aggregate base course (ABC) under pavers.

How long does a paver install take?+

Small patios run 3–5 days on-site. Driveways typically install in 1–2 weeks depending on demo, apron work, and size. Weather and material lead times can shift the schedule.

04 · AE LEDs

Permanent architectural + holiday lighting in one system.

Year-round eave lighting that runs Halloween orange, Christmas red-and-green, game-day colors, and a warm-white "just on" mode. All from your phone. Installed once, forever.

  • Millions of color combinations, app-controlled
  • Rated for AZ heat, monsoons, and UV — 5-year product warranty
  • Custom-cut channel = the lights disappear in daylight
  • AE-employee install crews, not third-party subs
How AE installs

How AE installs permanent outdoor LED lighting

Typical on-site time: Most homes: 1 install day

  1. Roofline measure and channel color match

We measure eaves, fascia, and any architectural runs, then match aluminum channel color to the fascia so the lights disappear during the day.

  2. Power tap and driver placement

The weatherproof driver is placed near an existing exterior outlet or a dedicated tap is added by our licensed electrician team.

  3. Custom-cut channel mount

Aluminum channel is cut to fit each roofline segment and mechanically fastened under the eave or along the fascia — no glue, no zip-tie shortcuts.

  4. LED module seat and seal

RGB + warm-white LED modules are seated in the channel, connectors are sealed for monsoon exposure, and endcaps are installed.

  5. App pairing and scene setup

The controller is paired to Wi-Fi and the homeowner's phone, then Halloween, Christmas, July 4th, everyday warm-white, and sunset-schedule scenes are configured before we leave.

Common questions
Can permanent LED lights run every holiday, not just Christmas?+

Yes. One AE LEDs install runs Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, Valentine's, St. Patrick's, July 4th, game day, birthdays, plus an everyday warm-white mode — all from the phone app.

Will my HOA approve permanent outdoor lights?+

Most Valley HOAs approve permanent eave lighting because the aluminum channel is color-matched to the fascia and the lights disappear when off. AE can package the submittal paperwork if your HOA requires it.

How long does the install take?+

Most single-story homes install in a single day. Larger two-story or wrap-around rooflines occasionally run into a second day depending on power tap and access.

Get paid to replace your grass. Most Valley homes qualify.

Arizona water providers (SRP, City of Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Peoria and more) actively pay $1–$3 per square foot to remove live grass. Our Turf Rebate Finder checks your address against every active program in under a minute — including pre-inspection rules that void the rebate if you remove grass early.

  • Checks your exact water provider
  • Live rebate rate + annual cap
  • Flags pre-inspection + HOA gotchas
  • Stacks with AE's turf install quote

Rebate outcomes governed by your utility, not AE. Programs are first-come, first-served against annual budgets.

Typical Valley rebate
$1–$3 / sq ft
500 sq ft lawn$500 – $1,500 back
1,000 sq ft lawn$1,000 – $3,000 back
2,000 sq ft lawn$2,000 – $6,000 back
Stacks with AE's $8–$14 / sq ft installed range — many homeowners cut their net turf investment 20–40%.

Do I qualify for a turf rebate in Arizona?+
Most Valley homes served by SRP-area municipal water providers (Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Peoria, Glendale, Tempe and others) qualify if you're replacing living, irrigated grass — not dirt, rock, or existing artificial turf. The Rebate Finder confirms your exact provider, current rate, remaining annual budget, and pre-inspection rules.

How much money will I actually get back?+
Active Valley programs pay $1–$3 per square foot of grass removed, capped annually per household. A 1,000 sq ft lawn typically returns $1,000–$3,000 — enough to offset 20–40% of AE's $8–$14 / sq ft installed turf investment.
See the full turf cost breakdown
What voids the rebate — is there a gotcha?+
Yes. Every program requires a pre-inspection while the grass is still alive and irrigated. Remove it early — even one day — and the rebate is denied with no appeal. HOA sign-off and photo documentation are also common requirements. Our install crew waits for your inspection before touching the lawn.
How AE installs turf — step by step
Does AE handle the rebate paperwork?+
We handle the install-side documentation your utility asks for (pre/post photos, materials list, sq ft measurement, invoice) and time the build around your inspection window. You submit the actual application — it stays in your name so the check comes to you directly.
Request a turf quote with rebate context
Real turf vs. rebate-driven turf — is it worth it?+
For most Phoenix yards under 2,000 sq ft, the rebate plus 10–15 years of eliminated water, mowing, fertilizer, and reseed costs pays back the install in 4–7 years. Larger lots or shaded lots may pencil differently — that's what the cost page and comparison guide are for.
