Glass fence spigots compared: Polaris, CRL and FHC

A spigot supports a fixed glass panel. A hinge operates a gate. Compare the exact fixed-panel support and mounting method on a proposal before comparing finishes or assuming a different model fits the same glass.

The honest version: AE's standard is a stainless-steel core mount, primarily using Polaris hardware; bolt-down mounting is used only when site conditions or the approved detail require it. Do not assume the models are interchangeable; verify the selected glass, gaskets and installation detail.
01

Read the model before the alloy

Polaris lists a Duplex 2205 core-drilled SpigotCD and a 2205 surface-mount SpigotSM, both specified by Polaris for 12 mm glass. The surface base plate has four countersunk anchor holes and optional alignment slots; that hole pattern is a product detail, not an anchoring recipe. Polaris includes a cover ring on these models.

CRL's current US catalog lists 2205 round and square friction-fit models in core and surface configurations, including FWCR12PS (round core) and FWCR22PS (round surface). Their product descriptions specify 12 mm toughened glass. Do not transfer those properties to every other CRL spigot range.

FHC's FFC1/FFC2 surface and FFC3/FFC4 core families are documented in 316 stainless. Its flyer separates model-specific glass ranges of 1/2–9/16 inch and 11/16–13/16 inch. Check the exact selected suffix and panel limits. The low-profile FHC family has a different illustrated panel-height limit; it is not a substitute simply because it is also a clamp.

02

Fit is not a rounding exercise

AE's fence minimum is 1/2-inch tempered safety glass with a permanent identification mark on every panel. A manufacturer's 12 mm listing does not establish compatibility with 1/2-inch glass or a thicker approved panel. Ask for the selected model's approved glass thickness tolerance, supplied gaskets and clamping detail before panel fabrication. Once tempered, a panel cannot be cut or drilled to make a different support fit.

03

The structure is part of the system

A core mount extends into a verified concrete pocket or an approved footing; a surface mount depends on its base plate, selected anchors and supporting substrate. Covers change the visible finish, not the need to verify the load path. Pavers, sand and decorative topping are not themselves the structural anchorage. A quoted spigot without an approved substrate detail and any necessary restoration or footing work is an incomplete installed scope.

Ask who provides the cover, gaskets, fasteners and care instructions. State the exact model, alloy, finish, glass type, installation detail and applicable manufacturer warranty in the written scope. Neither a 2205 nor a 316 label proves a complete pool barrier meets your site's requirements.

  • Confirm model-specific panel dimensions and selected glass/gasket fit.
  • Confirm core or surface detail against the verified supporting structure.
  • Confirm the gate hinge and latch separately from fixed-panel supports.
04

Before final approval

The customer confirms required pool-barrier height and other project-specific requirements with the municipality or authority and, where relevant, the HOA and insurer. AE installs to the approved written scope; unresolved requirements need confirmation before the system is approved and fabricated. Engineering, manufacturer instructions and signed scope determine the final anchorage for the actual site. A five-foot pool barrier is AE's baseline recommendation, but the applicable authority and approved project documents control.

Product selections. AE reserves the right to substitute a comparable product of comparable value that meets or exceeds the quality, manufacturing, performance and safety standards specified and priced for your project. Substitutions must remain compatible with the approved design, manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements, and are subject to your signed agreement and any required approvals. Read the product-substitution policy.
