Polaris vs CRL glass gate hinges: compare the model
The name on the supplier's catalog is not always the maker of the hinge. For a pool gate, choose by the specific application, glass and mounting geometry—not by a presumed rivalry between catalog names.
Supplier is not the same question as series
The CRL US catalog lists a glass-to-glass Polaris 125 (P0L180125BS) and Polaris 130 (P0L180130BS). If one proposal says “Polaris” and another says “from CRL,” the hardware may share a manufacturer. Ask each bidder for the exact maker, series, SKU and mounting configuration before treating them as different products.
The Polaris 125 series is intended for exterior frameless glass gates, including pools. Polaris describes self-closing and soft-closing action, adjustable closing tension and replaceable or upgradeable dampers, with wall, glass and post variants. Those are model-family attributes, not a promise about a completed gate on every site.
New gate or retrofit?
Polaris distinguishes the 125 new frameless application from the 130 retrofit hydraulic series. Existing glass cannot be cut or drilled after tempering. For a retrofit, compare the manufacturer drawing against the existing cutouts, glass make-up and support on site before ordering; a nominal inch size and a metric catalog range are not automatically interchangeable. For a new gate, field-measure and approve hinge location, cutouts and swing before the panel is fabricated.
AE's fence minimum is 1/2-inch tempered safety glass with a permanent identification mark on every panel. Polaris states a 10–12 mm glass range for the 125 series. Whether a selected hinge, gasket and assembly accept the actual specified AE glass must be documented before fabrication, not inferred by rounding a number.
A useful exclusion: GH037RBS
CRL UK's GH037RBS documentation explicitly says “Not for use on pool gates.” That makes this particular model an example of what to screen out when comparing a catalog, not evidence that all CRL-listed hinges are unsuitable. Its documentation describes a different product from the CRL-listed Polaris series. Do not substitute it into a pool-barrier gate design.
Judge the complete gate
Closing and latching are separate functions. Identify the hinge and the latch, then confirm that the assembled gate operates under the approved project requirements. Ask who supplies replacement dampers or other service parts, how adjustment and cleaning work, and which manufacturer warranty applies to the selected products—not a generic lifetime claim.
- Document the hinge series, mounting face and glass/cutout compatibility.
- Confirm the separate latch, swing, height and gaps as part of the approved barrier design.
- Confirm post or adjacent panel anchorage and any required engineering before the complete gate is approved.
Product selections. AE reserves the right to substitute a comparable product of comparable value that meets or exceeds the quality, manufacturing, performance and safety standards specified and priced for your project. Substitutions must remain compatible with the approved design, manufacturer instructions and applicable requirements, and are subject to your signed agreement and any required approvals.
