The best artificial turf for Arizona yards.
The artificial-turf market in the Valley is overrun with off-shore rolls that look great in the showroom and fade flat by year three. The honest field is small. Here's our ranked list for pet yards, play yards, and putting greens — and what to avoid no matter what the salesperson says.
- Real UV warranty terms — what's actually covered, for how long, and what the proration looks like.
- Blade chemistry and UV stabilizer package — survives AZ 160°F+ surface temperatures.
- Backing system — polyurethane (preferred) vs. latex (cracks in heat), and hole-drilled drainage rate.
- Face weight and pile height appropriate to use case (pet vs play vs putting).
- Infill chemistry — antimicrobial pet infill, sand+cork blends, and pet-urine handling.
- Domestic manufacturing and a real US warranty path — not an offshore rep with a Gmail address.

SYNLawn (Pet Series, Play Series)
Domestic-manufactured (Georgia), bio-based blade chemistry, polyurethane backing, and the most credible UV warranty in the industry. Our default spec for pet and play applications.
Why it ranks here- 16-year UV warranty with realistic proration — actually backed by a US manufacturer with a track record of honoring it.
- Bio-based polyurethane backing handles AZ heat cycles without the cracking common to latex backings.
- SYNLawn Pet+ series uses antimicrobial blade chemistry and dedicated pet infill — pet odor management is dramatically better than generic turf.
- Domestic manufacturing means consistent face weight and color batch-to-batch — no offshore variance.
- Strong Phoenix-area dealer support with real warranty pathway.
Watch-outs- Higher sticker price than off-shore product. The lifecycle math wins, but you'll see the gap on day one.
- Specify polyurethane backing on the order, not latex — even SYNLawn offers both depending on SKU.
- #2Best value premium$10–$15 per sq ft installed
Tigerturf (Pet Turf, Premier)
US-manufactured (Texas), 8–10 year warranty terms, and blade chemistry well-suited to AZ. A strong alternative to SYNLawn at a slightly lower price.
Why it ranks here- Made in the US with consistent manufacturing tolerances and a real US warranty path.
- Polyurethane backing options available — request explicitly, not latex.
- Pet-rated SKUs handle urine drainage and antimicrobial requirements competently.
- Solid dealer network in the Valley with field accountability.
Watch-outs- Warranty term is shorter than SYNLawn — 8–10 years vs 16 years matters over a 20-year ownership cycle.
- Color palette is slightly less natural-looking than SYNLawn's premium SKUs in direct AZ sun.
- #3Best for high-traffic play$11–$16 per sq ft installed
Shawgrass (ShawGrass Pet, ShawGrass Play)
Shaw is one of the largest US carpet and turf manufacturers — their turf line carries real engineering and serious warranty support, especially for play applications.
Why it ranks here- Backed by Shaw's industrial-scale US manufacturing and warranty infrastructure.
- Play-rated SKUs have strong fall-height padding compatibility for swing sets and play structures.
- Color and blade-shape options are wide enough to match modern landscape design.
- Polyurethane backing on premium SKUs; specify on the order.
Watch-outs- Pet-specific products are not as differentiated from generic turf as SYNLawn Pet+ — for serious pet households, SYNLawn is still our first pick.
- Some lower SKUs use latex backing — read the spec sheet carefully.
- #4Best putting surfaceAE installs this$14–$22 per sq ft installed (putting green only)
Putting-Green Turf — SYNLawn Tour Greens & Tigerturf Pure Putt
Putting greens are their own category — face weight, pile height, and infill are different from lawn turf. SYNLawn Tour Greens and Tigerturf Pure Putt are the two we install for real practice surfaces.
Why it ranks here- Face weight and pile height specifically engineered for ball roll — not just shortened lawn turf.
- Nylon (not polyethylene) putting surface holds true ball speed for 10+ years in AZ sun.
- Compatible with proper fringe and chipping-zone transitions for full short-game practice.
- Real Stimp reading consistency — measurable and tunable with infill depth.
Watch-outs- Cheaper 'putting green' turf is just short lawn turf — does not hold true ball roll and shows wear in 2 years.
- Putting green construction is half about the base — laser-graded compacted base with proper slopes matters more than the turf itself.
If a salesperson pushes one of these, ask why.
- Off-shore (typically Chinese) imported turf with no US distributor — UV stabilizers are inconsistent, blade fiber thickness is variable, and the 'warranty' has no real path to enforcement. Fades flat in 3–4 AZ summers.
- Any turf with a latex backing for AZ installs — Latex cracks and delaminates in 5–7 years under our heat cycles. Polyurethane (often called bio-cell or poly-back) is the AZ specification — non-negotiable.
- Quarter-minus base topped with a thin sand bed — Wait — this is correct for turf (not pavers). Note: many DIY and budget installers reverse this and use the wrong base materials. Insist on a 3–4" compacted quarter-minus base topped with a thin leveling course before turf install.
- Rubber crumb infill for pet yards — Holds heat, holds pet urine, and smells. Use antimicrobial sand-based infill (Envirofill, T°Cool) or dedicated pet-rated infill (Zeofill) instead.
