Gas fireplaces require plumbing permit for any burner, valve, or gas-line work — Phoenix, Scottsdale, Peoria, Gilbert, Chandler, and Mesa all inspect. Wood-burning fireplaces need chimney sweep, flue inspection, and spark arrestor per Arizona fire code — no permit for masonry-only repair.
