Acrylic coating (Cool Deck, Kool Deck)
Sprayed-on textured acrylic. Cheapest ($4–$8/sf), fastest install (2–3 days), reflects heat. 5–8 yr life in AZ, then chalks and flakes.
Spray-texture (knockdown, modern grit finish)
Acrylic with stamped or knockdown pattern. $6–$10/sf. 8–12 yr life. More upscale look than basic Cool Deck.
Paver overlay (1-3/8" porcelain or travertine)
Thin pavers bonded to existing concrete with thin-set. $18–$28/sf installed. 25–40 yr life. Best value over time. Adds 1.5" of deck height — verify door/gate clearance.
Price-per-year math
Cool Deck at $6/sf, 6 yr life = $1.00/sf/year. Paver overlay at $24/sf, 30 yr life = $0.80/sf/year. Pavers win on cost AND look. Cool Deck wins only on upfront cash.
