About Brakelights® Red Yucca
Hesperaloe parviflora 'Perpa' is the patented, named compact crimson-flowering selection sold as Brakelights®, selected by Mountain States Wholesale Nursery in Litchfield Park, Arizona. It is not interchangeable with every generic red yucca. The species is native to the Chihuahuan Desert of Texas and northeastern Mexico, not Arizona; Arizona selection history does not make the species Arizona native. This is a compact evergreen succulent rosette and clump, not a true Yucca. Plan foliage around 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, with flower stalks commonly raising the seasonal total to roughly 4–5 feet. Offsets expand the clump, and the nursery tag or provenance must confirm 'Perpa' because mislabeling defeats cultivar-specific size and flower promises. Narrow arching leaves have threadlike margins and firmer tips, so do not call the plant spineless or harmless. Deep crimson flower spikes and repeat warm-season flowering are the key selection traits, often bringing hummingbirds and other pollinators. Bloom density and repeat depend on maturity, sun, irrigation, weather and cultivar authenticity; uninterrupted year-round color is not promised. Full sun, reflected heat and well-drained soil suit established plants. Provide deliberate deep establishment irrigation and enough water for flowering quality, followed every time by full dry-down. Poor drainage or overwatering raises crown and root risk, while too little establishment water slows rooting.
