How Pool Finish Color Changes Your Water Color — A Visual Guide

The physics

Pool water has no color of its own. The finish underneath, the sky reflection, and the depth combine to produce the water color you see. Shallow water shows more finish; deep water reads more reflective.

Light finishes (white, French gray, beige)

Produce bright, sparkling Caribbean blues and greens. Pool reads larger and brighter. Algae shows quickly — but so does cleanliness.

Mid finishes (Sierra, Aqua Blue, Tahoe)

Classic resort blue. Most-popular range. Hides minor dirt while still reading clean and inviting.

Dark finishes (midnight, black, dark gray)

Deep, dramatic lagoon look. Heats water 5–10° more in summer (sometimes too hot in July/August). Hides debris but algae can hide too — requires more disciplined chemistry.

Picking yours

We bring physical sample boards to your yard at the design phase. Color in a brochure under fluorescent light reads completely differently than the same finish in AZ sun. Always sample-board on site.
