Why indoor TVs fail outside

Operating temp ceiling on indoor TVs is ~104°F. A patio in July hits 130°+ at the wall. Indoor TVs also can't handle UV (panel discolors), humidity (board corrosion), or dust. Even in a 'covered' patio, expect 1–2 summer failures.

What outdoor-rated means

Sealed chassis, anti-glare panel rated 1,500–4,000 nits (vs 300–500 indoor), operating temp 122–140°F, weather-rated I/O ports, sun-readable in direct light. Three tiers:

Brands worth installing

  • Sunbrite (Veranda/Signature/Pro) — best value, full-shade to partial-sun rated, 2–5 year warranty.
  • Seura — premium, true full-sun rated up to 4,000 nits, magazine-quality bezels.
  • Furrion Aurora — mid-range, good full-sun option, marine-grade build.

Install details that matter

Articulating outdoor-rated mount. Conduit-run HDMI (not exposed). Weather-rated power outlet behind. Soundbar must be outdoor-rated too — Sonos Outdoor or Sunbrite All-Weather.
