About Twin-Flower Agave
Twin-flowered Agave, native to west-central Mexico, is one of the most refined rosettes available for Phoenix design. AMWUA lists it for full or partial sun, hardy to about 25°F, very low water, fast growth and a mature size near 3 feet tall and 3 feet wide, with evergreen dark-green, coarse, slender, symmetrical leaves, smooth margins, a yellow winter flower stalk, nocturnal pollinator value and low litter. It is rabbit resistant. The smooth margins are genuinely different from a toothed agave, but each leaf still ends in a sharp tip at roughly waist and hand height, so this is not a plant to brush against. The 25°F hardiness also matters here: a hard Valley freeze in an open, exposed spot can damage foliage, and a slightly protected microclimate produces a cleaner plant year to year.
