Behr exterior masonry paint for Arizona walls.
Behr's exterior lineup at Home Depot is the most accessible — and one of the better-performing — paint systems for stucco, block, and brick across the Phoenix Valley. Here's exactly which Behr products to pull off the shelf for each surface, which colors actually hold up in the desert sun, and the prep steps that turn a 3-year repaint into a 10-year one.

Which Behr line for which surface
Behr ships several exterior lines and they are not interchangeable. The masonry-stucco-brick paint has flexible 100% acrylic resin and alkali resistance — those two specs are why it survives on CMU block and freshly patched stucco where regular exterior paint fails.
- Stucco walls — Behr Premium Masonry, Stucco & Brick (flat). Prime patches first.
- CMU block walls (garden, pool, retaining) — same masonry-stucco-brick line over bonding primer.
- Trim, fascia, eaves, garage doors — Behr Premium Plus Exterior (satin) or Marquee.
- South/west elevations in full sun — upgrade to Marquee for fade resistance.
- Bare or chalking walls — Behr Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer first, no exceptions.
- Hairline-cracked garden walls — Behr Granite Grip (textured) fills + unifies tone.
Arizona palette — Whites & Creams
Whites and warm creams are the safest body colors for full-sun Arizona walls — highest LRV, lowest heat gain, longest fade life. Tap any swatch for finish details, or the heart icon to save it to your favorites. Hex values are screen approximations; always sample on the actual wall.
Arizona palette — Tans & Adobes
The Phoenix-Valley workhorse range. Every one of these is available at any Arizona Home Depot paint desk in the Premium Masonry, Stucco & Brick line.
Arizona palette — Terra Cotta & Sedona Reds
Accent-only range — too saturated for full elevations on south or west exposures. Best on door surrounds, pony walls, and pop-out chimneys against a tan or cream body.
Arizona palette — Browns & Earth Tones
Deep accents for fascia, garage doors, and beam trim. Lower LRV — keep these off west-facing full-sun elevations unless you want to repaint in 5 years.
Arizona palette — Grays, Taupes & Greige
Modern desert and transitional homes lean here. Behr's warm-gray range stays true under Arizona sun — true cool grays tend to read blue at midday and we generally avoid them.
Arizona palette — Sage & Desert Greens
Subtle greens that integrate with creosote, palo verde, and desert plantings. Best as body colors on shaded elevations or as accent doors and shutters.
Arizona palette — Accents, Darks & Soft Blacks
Window frames, garage doors, iron gates, fascia accents. Behr 'Cracked Pepper' is the most-specced soft black in the Valley — true blacks read flat and absorb too much heat.
Drylok masonry waterproofer — Arizona palette
Drylok is what we spec for any block exposed to grade, irrigation, or pool splash. The Extreme and Original lines come tintable at Home Depot — these are the most-used color tints plus the fixed Drylok Concrete & Masonry Floor Paint set for pool decks and patio slabs.
Prep that makes the paint last
- Pressure wash entire surface; let dry minimum 24 hours (longer in winter).
- Patch stucco cracks with a flexible acrylic patching compound — not standard caulk.
- Treat any efflorescence (white powdery deposits) with masonry cleaner, rinse, dry.
- Mask windows, doors, decorative iron, and pavers — overspray etches glass and stains stone.
- Prime all bare or repaired areas with Behr Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer.
- Apply 2 finish coats minimum on bare/primed surfaces, 1–2 over sound existing paint.
- Do not paint when surface temp exceeds 90°F or in direct afternoon sun on west walls.
When to DIY vs hire it out
- DIY-friendly — garden walls, single garage doors, trim refreshes, freestanding block.
- Borderline — single-story stucco repaint with minimal patches and easy access.
- Hire out — two-story elevations, stucco with crack patterns, HOA color approval projects.
- Always hire out — lead-paint-era homes (pre-1978), heavy efflorescence, or any peeling that's exposing substrate.

Behr Premium Masonry, Stucco & Brick Paint (Flat)
Flexible 100% acrylic, alkali-resistant. Our default for stucco, block, brick, fiber cement. Good film build at 1 coat over primer, 2 coats over bare/repaired surfaces.
Behr Premium Plus Exterior (Satin / Flat / Semi-Gloss)
Budget-friendly exterior. Fine for trim, fascia, eaves, and wood/metal accents. We do not spec it as the primary coat on bare masonry — use the masonry-stucco-brick line above for walls.
Behr Marquee Exterior (One-Coat in select colors)
Premium tier. True one-coat coverage in the Marquee-approved color set when applied over a sound, like-color substrate. Stronger fade resistance — worth it on south- and west-facing Arizona walls.
Behr Concrete & Masonry Bonding Primer
Required first coat on bare or chalking masonry, repaired stucco patches, and any wall that's been pressure-washed back to substrate. Skip the primer = early peel.
Behr Premium Granite Grip (textured concrete coating)
Textured fill coat for hairline-cracked block walls and rough stucco. We use it occasionally on garden walls that don't qualify for full stucco repair — fills minor surface flaws and unifies tone.
Behr full exterior color browser
Filter the entire Behr exterior palette by hue, neutrals, whites, and trending desert tones. Order 8 oz samples shipped or picked up — always sample before committing a wall.
Drylok Extreme Masonry Waterproofer (White / Tintable)
10-year warranty waterproofer for below-grade walls, planter backs, retaining walls, and any block exposed to irrigation overspray. Tintable to ~100 light/medium colors at Home Depot.
Drylok Original Masonry Waterproofer
7-year warranty original formula. Cheaper than Extreme — fine for garden walls and freestanding block that aren't holding back grade or pool water.
Drylok Concrete & Masonry Floor Paint (Latex)
For pool decks, patios, garage slabs, and equipment pads. Comes in a small fixed AZ-friendly color set — Persian Blue, Battleship Gray, Tile Red, Beige, Platinum, and Georgetown Gray.
Drylok E1 1-Part Epoxy Floor Paint
Step up from the latex line for higher-wear pool decks and garage floors. Better chemical and UV resistance than standard Drylok floor paint.

We don't run a paint crew — but we coordinate exterior repaints into our hardscape and full backyard rebuilds, so the walls, pavers, and finishes all read as one cohesive project instead of three separate ones. Tell us what you're planning.
