A note on the numbers

This isn't a cost. It's an investment.

The figures on this page are real and we don't hide them — that's how AE operates. But we want to be honest about how to read them. Your pavers & hardscape project isn't a line-item expense; it's an investment in your home's value, your family's daily experience, and a space you'll use for the next twenty to thirty years.

When you compare bids, compare what you're investing in — the spec, the crews, the warranty, the company that will still be standing in year ten — not just the price tag. The lowest bid is almost always the most expensive build over time.

Travertine pavers in Phoenix: cost, colors, and where they belong

Travertine is the go-to Phoenix pool-deck material for a reason — it stays noticeably cooler underfoot than concrete pavers and reads premium. Here's what it actually costs and where it belongs.

The honest version: Installed travertine in Phoenix runs $22–$34/sf for standard tumbled pavers, more for large-format French pattern. It's cooler than concrete pavers by 10–20°F in direct sun and the color range (ivory, silver, walnut) suits AZ light. Downsides: softer than porcelain, needs sealing every 3–5 years, more expensive.

Educational estimate, not a quote. Ranges shown are Arizona-market planning estimates. Final pricing depends on site access, size, materials, engineering, drainage, utilities, permits, equipment access, existing conditions, and final scope. Binding pricing is only valid in a written proposal signed by an AE representative.

Budget to the high end. Use the top of every range on this page as your working number. The low end assumes easy access, sound existing conditions, and standard selections — real Arizona projects often carry demolition, drainage or grading work, upgraded materials, or conditions found once work starts. If the top of the range still fits your plan, the project fits your budget. Ranges are planning guidance, not a quote; the signed scope controls.

02

Where travertine wins in AZ

  • Pool decks — cooler underfoot than concrete or dark pavers.
  • Shaded patios — the color depth reads better without full sun bleaching.
  • High-end projects — the material signals investment.
03

Where concrete pavers are the better call

  • High-traffic driveways — concrete pavers are harder and more chip-resistant.
  • Tight budgets — concrete pavers at $14–$22/sf hit most patio needs.
  • Modern-look projects — porcelain pavers or large-format concrete read cleaner.
04

Install spec (same base as any AE paver job)

  • 2–3" compacted ABC for patios; 4–6" for drives.
  • 1" screeded sand bed.
  • Polymeric joint sand.
  • Edge restraint on every open edge.
FAQ

Common questions.

Yes — seal after install and every 3–5 years. Sealing blocks pool-water etching and helps with iron / mineral staining.

Tumbled and honed travertine have good wet grip — better than polished porcelain. Avoid polished travertine on pool decks.

25+ years installed properly. Failures are almost always base or grout failures, not the stone itself.
