A note on the numbers

This isn't a cost. It's an investment.

The figures on this page are real and we don't hide them — that's how AE operates. But we want to be honest about how to read them. Your pools & spas project isn't a line-item expense; it's an investment in your home's value, your family's daily experience, and a space you'll use for the next twenty to thirty years.

When you compare bids, compare what you're investing in — the spec, the crews, the warranty, the company that will still be standing in year ten — not just the price tag. The lowest bid is almost always the most expensive build over time.

How much does a small pool cost in Arizona?

A 'small' pool in Arizona usually means under 300 sq ft of surface — plunge, spool (spa+pool combo), or a cocktail-style dip pool. They cost less than a full family pool but the per-square-foot investment is often higher because the fixed costs (excavation mobilization, plumbing, equipment pad) don't shrink.

The honest version: Plunge pool (10x14, plaster, minimal features): $55K–$75K. Spool (spa + small pool combo with heater and jets): $75K–$105K. Small designer pool with pebble finish, LED, water feature, and travertine deck: $95K–$140K. Same 15/25/25/25/10 payment schedule as full builds.

Educational estimate, not a quote. Ranges shown are Arizona-market planning estimates. Final pricing depends on site access, size, materials, engineering, drainage, utilities, permits, equipment access, existing conditions, and final scope. Binding pricing is only valid in a written proposal signed by an AE representative.

01

Why small pools cost more per square foot

  • Excavation crews, pump trucks, and gunite trucks have minimum-day charges regardless of size.
  • Plumbing, electrical, and equipment set are nearly identical to a bigger pool.
  • Site access in tight backyards often means hand-dig or conveyor — extra labor.
  • Small pools still need permits, engineering, and code-compliant barriers.
02

What actually varies with size

  • Gunite and rebar tonnage.
  • Interior finish (plaster vs mini-pebble vs full pebble).
  • Deck square footage (travertine, pavers, or concrete).
  • Water volume — affects heater sizing and chemistry cost, not build cost much.
