A note on the numbers

This isn't a cost. It's an investment.

The figures on this page are real and we don't hide them — that's how AE operates. But we want to be honest about how to read them. Your pools & spas project isn't a line-item expense; it's an investment in your home's value, your family's daily experience, and a space you'll use for the next twenty to thirty years.

When you compare bids, compare what you're investing in — the spec, the crews, the warranty, the company that will still be standing in year ten — not just the price tag. The lowest bid is almost always the most expensive build over time.

How much does it cost to resurface a pool in Arizona?

Interior finishes wear out on a predictable schedule in Arizona hard water. Here's what refinishing actually costs — and what we recommend at each budget.

The honest version: Basic white plaster runs $6,000–$9,000 on a typical 14x28 pool. Quartz is $9,000–$14,000 and lasts noticeably longer. Pebble (Pebble Tec / Pebble Sheen equivalents) is $12,000–$20,000 and is what we install on almost every remodel we own long-term.

Educational estimate, not a quote. Ranges shown are Arizona-market planning estimates. Final pricing depends on site access, size, materials, engineering, drainage, utilities, permits, equipment access, existing conditions, and final scope. Binding pricing is only valid in a written proposal signed by an AE representative.

Budget to the high end. Use the top of every range on this page as your working number. The low end assumes easy access, sound existing conditions, and standard selections — real Arizona projects often carry demolition, drainage or grading work, upgraded materials, or conditions found once work starts. If the top of the range still fits your plan, the project fits your budget. Ranges are planning guidance, not a quote; the signed scope controls.

By finish type (typical 14x28 pool, ~500 sq ft interior)

  • White plaster: $6,000–$9,000 — 7–12 year life in AZ water.
  • Quartz aggregate: $9,000–$14,000 — 12–18 year life, better stain resistance.
  • Pebble (small aggregate): $12,000–$18,000 — 18–25 year life, most durable.
  • Pebble Sheen / mini-pebble upgrade: $14,000–$20,000 — smoother underfoot.
  • Add waterline tile replacement: $3,500–$8,000 depending on tile choice.

What a proper resurface includes

  • Chip out old finish to bond coat, acid wash, and prep.
  • New bond coat + new interior finish, hand-troweled.
  • Start-up chemistry protocol (28-day brush + balance) — critical for cure.
  • Optional: new waterline tile, drain covers, main-drain grates to code.
FAQ

Common questions.

Rough spots that snag swimsuits, persistent staining that won't acid wash off, exposed aggregate bleeding through plaster, or plaster older than ~10 years with visible etching.

Yes — resurfacing requires a full drain. We coordinate timing to avoid hydrostatic issues and refill/rebalance chemistry on completion.
