A note on the numbers

This isn't a cost. It's an investment.

The figures on this page are real and we don't hide them — that's how AE operates. But we want to be honest about how to read them. Your outdoor kitchens & living project isn't a line-item expense; it's an investment in your home's value, your family's daily experience, and a space you'll use for the next twenty to thirty years.

When you compare bids, compare what you're investing in — the spec, the crews, the warranty, the company that will still be standing in year ten — not just the price tag. The lowest bid is almost always the most expensive build over time.

How much does a built-in fire pit or fireplace cost in Arizona?

Fire features anchor a patio. Here's the real cost range across styles, with honest tradeoffs.

The honest version: Portable/dropped-in gas pit: $2,000–$5,000. Built-in gas fire pit with masonry surround and gas line: $6,000–$14,000. Full masonry outdoor fireplace: $12,000–$28,000+.

Educational estimate, not a quote. Ranges shown are Arizona-market planning estimates. Final pricing depends on site access, size, materials, engineering, drainage, utilities, permits, equipment access, existing conditions, and final scope. Binding pricing is only valid in a written proposal signed by an AE representative.

Budget to the high end. Use the top of every range on this page as your working number. The low end assumes easy access, sound existing conditions, and standard selections — real Arizona projects often carry demolition, drainage or grading work, upgraded materials, or conditions found once work starts. If the top of the range still fits your plan, the project fits your budget. Ranges are planning guidance, not a quote; the signed scope controls.

By feature type

  • Portable gas fire pit (propane): $600–$2,500 (product only).
  • Drop-in gas insert on a built ledge: $3,500–$6,500 installed.
  • Full built-in gas pit w/ masonry seat wall (~5 ft dia): $6,000–$14,000.
  • Masonry outdoor fireplace w/ chimney: $12,000–$28,000+.
  • Wood-burning options: usually $2K–$4K less than gas but code-restricted in many Valley cities.

What we recommend

  • Gas > wood in Phoenix metro (burn restrictions, HOA rules, guests can turn on/off).
  • Spec a stainless burner + lava rock or fire glass sized to the pit diameter.
  • Integrate a gas key + electronic ignition where budget allows.
  • Seat wall at 18" height around a pit adds real usability.
FAQ

Common questions.

Yes if we're running a new gas line — permits and inspection are required in every Valley municipality we work in. AE handles it.
